Promises for: Fulness in the LORD

John 14:14
"If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it."

compiled by Katie Stewart

                      PROMISES

"Faith... reveals itself in... committing itself to the testimony and will of God,
in resting in the promises and declarations of God, and in the word and work of Christ."
-from "SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY" --New Window by Charles G. Finney

"Can ye find any fault with your Saviour?... Hath his truthfulness departed?
Have his words been broken? Have his promises failed?...
Ah, no!... in him there is no sin."

-from "SERMONS" --New Window by C. H. Spurgeon

"God is represented as clothed with zeal as with a cloak; and after making some of his
exceeding great and precious promises
, he concludes by saying,
'the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.'
"
-from "SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY" --New Window by Charles G. Finney

Preface

Christian fulness and "perfection is to appropriate Christ by faith in all of His offices, capacities, and relations to meet our every need in life...
'Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith' (Hebrews 12:20, Who 'shall supply all [our] need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus' (Philippians 4:19), Who is our 'Jehovah Jireh' (Genesis 22:14)-- literally, the LORD will provide)." --from An Urgent Call to Christian Perfection --New Window An Exposition of the Doctrine of Christian Perfection by Tom Stewart

1. Our Fulness and Perfection:

2. Our Portion:

The Offices, Capacities, and Relations Which Jesus Christ Can Fulfill In Us

Jesus Christ is our AUTHORITY, the Lawgiver by which we live.

1. Jesus is The Word. The Word of God is His very Name and His Authority.
2. Jesus is our Sceptre. As our Sceptre, He is an instrument of Authority denoting favour or judgment, as from our Ruler.

Examples of authority as from a sceptre:

Esth. 4:11 "there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days."

Esth. 5:2 "And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre."

Jesus Christ is our PEACE, the Preserver of a fruitful life.

More than just the absence of conflict, Peace is the presence of God.
Example:
Shiloh: tranquility; as belonging to; He whose it is.
Gen. 49:10 "...until Shiloh come; and unto Him shall the gathering of the people be."
More than just feelings, Peace is the faith-substance that blesses our interaction with God and man.
Example:
Rom. 14:17-19 "For the Kingdom of God is... righteousness, and Peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth [interaction with] Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for Peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."

Heb. 12:14 "Follow Peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the LORD."

1. Jesus is our Peace with The Father. The vital state of harmony with The Father so complete as to be essentially one with Him

2. Jesus is our Peace with man. The state of harmony which affords a quiet life of holy service in a hostile world

.
.
"Now the LORD of Peace Himself give you Peace always by all means. The LORD be with you all"

(2 Thessalonians 3:16).

To His people, Jesus Christ is Life.
He is our Authority.
He is our Peace.
He is Ever-So-Much More.

Isaiah 32:2 "And a man shall be as an hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land." In these words we may observe, 1. The person who is here prophesie
d of and commended, viz. the Lord Jesus Christ, the King spoken of in the preceding verse, who shall reign in righteousness.

"Whereby are given unto us Exceeding Great And Precious Promises:
that by These ye might be partakers of the Divine Nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience Godliness;
And to Godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound,
They make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful
in the Knowledge of our LORD Jesus Christ
."
2 Peter 1:4-8
