Harpazo: The Scriptural Concept
of Rapture |
Tom Stewart |
8-21-99 |
"Harpazo" (har-pad'-zo) is the Greek word which the New Testament translators have rendered as "caught up". "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up [Greek, harpazo] to the Third Heaven" (2Corinthians 12:2). "Rapture" is taken from an obsolete French word, which means "abduction" or "to carry off". Though Greek scholars may refrain from using "rapture" to translate "harpazo", it is not a wresting of Scripture for the honest Christian to see the connection between the two. "According to your faith be it unto you" (Matthew 9:29). |

"HARPEZO- All Who Have Heard The Great Call" - prophecy |
Bob Neumann @ Bob's Home Page ---- New Window |
8-21-99 |
BEHOLD MY LILY OF THE VALLEYS, ROBED IN ROYAL PURPLE, CLOTHED IN THE COLORS OF SOVEREIGNTY. BEHOLD MY BELOVED IN WHOM I TAKE GREAT DELIGHT. MY BELOVED IS LIKE A LILY AMONG THE THORNS. A ROSE AMIDST THE BRIERS. IT IS NOW TIME TO COME FORTH. COME FORTH OUT OF THE WEEDS. TO BE SEPARATED FROM THE TARES THAT HAVE SURROUNDED YOU SO LONG. BEHOLD MY BELOVED, THE ONE IN WHOM I TAKE GREAT DELIGHT IN. BEHOLD THE ONE IN WHOM I AM MOST PLEASED. BEHOLD MY BRIDE. AMONG ALL WHO HAVE HEARD THE GREAT CALL THERE IS A MERE FEW WHO HAVE COME FORWARD. IT IS THESE WHO HAVE SEPARATED THEMSELVES THAT I DO PROCLAIM MY CHOSEN. |

Hastening the LORD's Return -study |
Tom Stewart |
4-20-2001 |
"Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the
day of God" (2Peter 3:12). This concept of hastening the LORD's Return is in keeping with praying for the fulfillment of prophecy, i.e., the LORD requiring His people to petition Him to do what He said He would do. "36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it. 37 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock" (Ezekiel 36:36-37). Though the outcome is certain, still the Almighty allows our participation in the fulfillment of prophecy through the means of believing prayer. "And He said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so in Earth" (Luke 11:2). However, hastening the LORD's Return adds another dimension in addition to prayer. "Occupy till I come" (Luke 19:13). |

He That Endureth
to the End Shall Be Saved |
Tom Stewart |
5-28-99 |
In our enthusiasm to promote God's Simple Plan of
Salvation, we have made anathema any suggestion that the Scripture demands anything
beyond the simple requirement to believe... The desire to protect Gospel Salvation
from the Judaizers, who wrongly made the keeping of the Ceremonial Law of the Old
Testament necessary for Salvation, has caused the Gospel requirement of persevering
in faith, continuing in Christ, holding fast our confidence in Christ, or enduring
to the end, to be laid aside from the claims of the Primitive Gospel. "We are
made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto
the end" (Hebrews 3:14)... You may ask, "Don't you believe in the Eternal Security of the Believer?" Most certainly, I do. "And I give unto them Eternal Life; and they shall never perish" (John 10:28). But, we are nowhere to confuse the Security of the Believer with the Insecurity that Rightfully Belongs to ANY Sinner. "Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him" (1John 3:6). The self-deception of sin persuades the one who professes to know Jesus Christ that they have already been saved, even though they presently continue in unrepented sin. "In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God..." (1John 3:10)... Persevering to the end is part of Saving Faith; and therefore, it is a condition of Eternal Salvation. Holding fast our faith (or, "confidence") is the same as enduring. "But Christ as a Son over His own house; Whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end" (Hebrews 3:6)... The faith that believes that it is not necessary to endure to the end as a condition of Eternal Salvation prepares the Church for the Apostasy or Falling Away of the End Times... A cardinal tenet of faith is: "According to your faith be it unto you" (Matthew 9:29). And, if we allow and prepare ourselves to fall away from the faith-- ever so briefly-- we will fall away! "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7)... Not only is it necessary for the Saints to endure or persevere to the end; but at the same time, both the Father and the Son have promised to preserve those who "continue in the faith". "...no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand" (John 10:29). This relationship where the Saints Endure While God Preserves was best expressed by the LORD Jesus: "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work" (John 5:17)... Love is the motivation to endure to the end, but faith is the means to carry it out. "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by Love" (Galatians 5:6). Faith or confidence in the character of God is the only thing we can do to please God. "But without faith it is impossible to please Him..." (Hebrews 11:6). How can we ever mature without an ever increasing confidence in the character of God? And, how can we increase in confidence, if we do not persevere? "If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established" (Isaiah 7:9). Considering what the LORD Jesus did for us on the Cross, how can we justify sinning against Him? "Against Thee, Thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Thy sight..." (Psalm 51:4). Further, if we cannot bear to offend the Lamb of God, would it not be unreasonable for the LORD to preserve us in holiness? |

He Will Subdue
Our Iniquities |
Tom Stewart |
3-22-98 |
How can anyone speak of walking without sinning, without being completely out of touch with the human condition? The Son of Man, the LORD Jesus Christ, did exactly that. He said, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). |

For their motives are for their own gain. Remember WW II, the wrath and condemnation of the world that was laid against you, yet you would still NOT call upon My Name and I relented lest I would have smote you from the face of the earth, but My promise to Abraham is secure. |

Heaven: Where It Is, Its Inhabitants, And How To Get There - study |
D. L. Moody |
(1837-1899) |
THE CERTAINTY OF GOD'S PROMISE OF A LIFE BEYOND THE
GRAVE, AND THE REWARDS THAT ARE IN STORE FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE. AS GLEANED FROM SACRED
SCRIPTURE. "And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of the Lord did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof." "If I understand things correctly, whenever you find men or women who are looking to be rewarded here for doing right, they are unqualified to work for God; because if they are looking for the applause of men, looking for reward in this life, it will disqualify them for the service of God, because they are all the while compromising truth. They are afraid of hurting some one's feelings. They are afraid that some one is going to say something against them, or there will be some newspaper articles written against them. Now, we must trample the world under our feet if we are going to get our reward hereafter. If we live for God we must suffer persecution. The kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light are at war, and have been, and will be as long as Satan is permitted to reign in this world. As long as the kingdom of darkness is permitted to exist, there will be a conflict, and if you want to be popular in the kingdom of God, if you want to be popular in heaven, and get a reward that shall last forever, you will have to be unpopular here. If you seek the applause of men, you can't have the Lord say "Well done" at the end of the journey. You can't have both. Why? Because this world is at war with God." --D. L. Moody |

"Helps to Intercession" - book |
Andrew Murray |
(1828-1917) |
Who is Sufficient for These Things? - "The more we study and try to practice this grace of intercession, the more we become overwhelmed by its greatness and our feebleness. Let every such impression lead us to listen: My grace is sufficient for thee, and to answer truthfully: Our sufficiency is of God. Take courage; it is in the intercession of Christ you are called to take part. The burden and the agony, the triumph and the victory are all His. Learn from Him, yield to His Spirit in you, to know how to pray. He gave Himself a sacrifice to God for men, that He might have the right and power of intercession. 'He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.' Let your faith rest boldly on His finished work. Let your heart wholly identify itself with Him in His death and His life. Like Him, give yourself to God a sacrifice for men; it is your highest nobility; it is your true and full union with Him; it will be to you, as to Him, your power of intercession. Beloved Christian! come and give your whole heart and life to intercession, and you will know its blessedness and its power. God asks nothing less; the world needs nothing less; Christ asks nothing less; let us offer to God nothing less." |

His Resurrection Is The Highest Proof That Jesus Is The Messiah |
Tom Stewart |
4-28-2004 |
"What evidence should satisfy the most inquisitive mind that Jesus is the Messiah? All of humanity must be born into this world, and it will be by the hand of the Almighty that He will take us out of this world, i.e., 'And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this The Judgment' (Hebrews 9:27), so birth and death are common to man. However, who but God Alone has the Power to resurrect from the dead? 'God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that Power belongeth unto God' (Psalm 62:11). Even if a questioning mind could not settle whether Jesus resurrected by His own Power or whether it was the Power of the Almighty to resurrect Jesus from the dead, Why would Jehovah resurrect Jesus and thereby vindicate the claims of Jesus of Nazareth that He would Rise again after three days, unless Jesus is the Messiah? '3 Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our LORD, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 4 and declared to be the Son of God with Power, according to the Spirit of Holiness, by the Resurrection from the dead' (Romans 1:3-4)." |

His Sheep Hear and Follow -study |
Katie Stewart |
10-19-2001 |
"My sheep hear My Voice, and I know them, and
they follow Me" (John 10:27). "A shepherd has responsibilities to his sheep, and whenever responsibility enters a discussion, morality enters, 'as the duty of every day required' (2Chronicles 8:14). And where morality is concerned, the concepts of right and wrong are definitive. 'Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin' (James 4:17). It is for this reason, of showing moral duty, that the Saviour calls Himself 'the Good Shepherd' (John 10:11). And where there is moral duty, obligation is also definitive. 'Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His Commandments: for this is the whole duty of man' (Ecclessiastes 12:13)." |

How I Know God Answers
Prayer (1921) |
Rosalind Goforth |
1921 |
"It seems fitting that this little book of personal testimonies to answered prayer should have a brief introductory word as to how they came to be written. The question has been asked by some who read many of these testimonies as they appeared in the pages of The Sunday School Times: 'How could you write such personal and sacred incidents in your life?' I could not have written them but for a very clear, God-given leading." |

"True Christian happiness must take place regardless of external circumstances. '11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you' (Matthew 5:11-12). The very idea of happiness was the theme of the Saviour in the Sermon on the Mount, for the Greek word makarios is translated both as happy or blessed. '3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the Earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the Children of God. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven' (5:3-10). In other words, to be truly Christian is to be truly happy. '8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the Gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham' (Galatians 3:8-9)." | |
|
Tom Stewart |
5-5-02 |
"It is the height of conceit that we would ever
think that we will make ourself ready to be raptured home to Heaven by the simple
force of our will. 'O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not
in man that walketh to direct his steps' (Jeremiah 10:23). If we have learned anything
about the LORD Jesus Christ, we have learned that 'not by works of righteousness
which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us' (Titus 3:5). In other
words, we must be trusting in His merit and not any so-called worthiness of
our own for Salvation, Sanctification, and Eternity. '3 For what saith the Scripture?
Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for Righteousness. 4 Now to him
that worketh is the Reward not reckoned of Grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that
worketh not, but believeth on Him that Justifieth the ungodly, his Faith is counted
for Righteousness' (Romans 4:3-5). In sum, our confidence and sufficiency is not
in ourselves, but in God. 'Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing
as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God' (2Corinthians 3:5). Having clearly established that we must presently be living 'by the Faith of the Son of God, Who loved [us], and gave Himself for [us]' (Galatians 2:20), we can address how to be ready for the Rapture. 'Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh' (Matthew 24:44). However, in our attempt to properly emphasize the 'Grace of God that bringeth Salvation' (Titus 2:11), we have a tendency to discount those Scriptures that make us responsible for our own readiness to meet the LORD Jesus Christ, when He returns for us in the Rapture. 'Even so Faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone' (James 2:17). It would be a grave mistake to assume that any action that we have taken in the past, will be sufficient by itself to ensure our readiness to be raptured. 'Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man' (Luke 21:36). Rather than relying upon any metaphysical formula from men promising that God will grant us the indulgence of our sins that we are committing or will commit-- and, still rapture us home to Heaven-- we ought rather to faithfully declare our absolute necessity of a continuing and practical holiness. 'Follow Peace with all men, and Holiness, without which no man shall see the LORD' (Hebrews 12:14)." |

How to Go On When You Can't -study |
Lester Roloff |
|
"A test of a Christian's character is what he
does after he comes to the blockade in the road and what his attitude is after everything
has left him except Jesus. You will never know down here that Christ is all you need
until Christ is all you have left. You will never be able to tell the world for sure
that He will do in a crisis unless you learn how to live in a crisis. In this message
we are going to walk with men in the crises of life. God is going to prove to us
that He is sufficient to see every child He has through. When it gets so hard that
you and I cannot live for Christ down here, by His grace, He will grab us up and
take us Home. 'He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that worketh in us' (Ephesians 3:20), and that's the Holy
Spirit. The question is, as a Christian, how far are you willing to go after you cannot go any further? What are you willing to do after you reach the place where you can do exactly nothing?" |

For little ones, it is crucial to have a proper understanding
of the Atonement that they may come to the lap of Jesus. "Take My yoke upon
you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto
your souls" (Matthew 11:29). The "letter" that follows the introduction
is addressed to your son/daughter and uses the same basic concepts that we have used
for very young children. Using this "letter," together with the introduction
that explains the Atonement, may help you answer your child's questions. "And
all thy children SHALL BE TAUGHT of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy
children" (Isaiah 54:13). "Dear Little One" is the letter containing graphics, that you can "teach" your child. It's not to be read just once. Make these teaching times special-- times that your child looks forward to. Someday, you'll both remember in Heaven the time spent on the LORD's lap. |

How To Pray -study |
R. A. Torrey |
(1856-1928) |
In the 6th chapter of Ephesians in the 18th verse
we read words which put the tremendous importance of prayer with startling and overwhelming
force: "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." When we stop to weigh the meaning of these words, then note the connection in which they are found, the intelligent child of God is driven to say, "I must pray, pray, pray. I must put all my energy and all my heart into prayer. Whatever else I do, I must pray." |

How to Promote
the Beauties of Holiness |
Tom Stewart |
7-13-2001 |
"Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy
Power, in the Beauties of Holiness from the womb of the morning: Thou hast the dew
of Thy youth" (Psalm 110:3). "Did not even the Old Testament writers comprehend that there would come a day when Pentecost's Promised Blessing of Divine Presence would invigorate all those that repent and turn to Jesus Christ in faith-- and, most importantly, cause us to walk in Perfect Obedience? '26 A New Heart also will I give you, and a New Spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My Statutes, and ye shall keep My Judgments, and do them' (Ezekiel 36:26-27). If the LORD Jesus Christ has already begun His 'perfect work' (James 1:4) of Salvation and Sanctification in us, then He will not only 'perform it until the day of Jesus Christ' (Philippians 1:6), i.e., until Christ takes us Home by death or Rapture; but, He has already begun to work in us 'to will and to do of His good pleasure' (Philippians 2:13). The 'Beauties of Holiness' (Psalm 110:3) extolled by the Psalmist are the decorum of the Saints, in the present day of Christ's Gospel Power. The question for those who already understand their need of the 'manifold Grace of God' (1Peter 4:10) for Salvation, is: 'How can I promote the Beauties of Holiness in my own life (because absolutely nothing is worth sinning against God)?' 'Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the Blood of the Covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of Grace?' (Hebrews 10:29). What cooperation does the Spirit of God require of me to secure me from offending the Father Who loved me, the Saviour Who died for me, and the Spirit Who sought after me? 'My Father worketh hitherto, and I work' (John 5:17). Remember that Holiness means not only separateness or apartness from sin, but consecration or dedication to God. 'In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD'S house shall be like the bowls before the altar. Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be Holiness unto the LORD of Hosts' (Zechariah 14:20-21)." |

'I am the Vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing' (John 15:5).
