Mandatory Traits of A True Christian
Introduction
- study

New Window

"As He is, so are we in this world" (1John 4:17).
"22 The Fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith,
23 Meekness, Temperance: against such there is no Law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5:22-25).
"How can you know you are truly a Christian? 'Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit' (1John 4:13). The Holy Spirit of the LORD is only given to those who obey and walk according to His Word. 'And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, Whom God hath given to them that obey Him' (Acts 5:32)."

Mandatory Trait 1. Loving ---New Window
"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is Love" (1John 4:8).
"The first 'Fruit of the Spirit is Love' (Galatians 5:22). True Christians are to 'live in the Spirit' and 'walk in the Spirit' (5:25). 'What saith the Scripture' (Romans 4:3) concerning this mandatory characteristic that all true children have from their Father?"

Mandatory Trait 2. Joyful ---New Window
"These things have I spoken unto you, that My Joy might remain in you, and that your Joy might be full" (John 15:11).
"The second 'Fruit of the Spirit is Joy'
(Galatians 5:22). True Christians are happy people! We may not have thought being happy important enough to qualify as a mandatory trait of Christianity-- but, the LORD did! It's the Highest Good He can Will for us."

Many Mansions - sermon

New Window

Jonathan Edwards

(1703-1758)

JOHN 14:2. "In My Father's house are many mansions." IN these words may be observed two things, 1. The thing described, viz., Christ's Father's house. Christ spoke to his disciples in the foregoing chapter as one that was about to leave them. He told 'em, verse 31, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him," and then goes to giving of them counsel to live in unity and love one another, as one that was going from them.

"Map" - prophecy

New Window

Jeannette Loviette Vetter @ White Stones Ministeries ---New Window

2-2-99

"My granddaughter and I had our maps. Since I knew the way, I made sure her map was clearly marked with all of the information needed to complete our journey. I said to her, 'Its beautiful! I can see the city and it is beautiful! We have our maps and we can go straight there.' I said this to her because her map was in a primitive stage of development... She could not see the city nor, thankfully, the people that fell and disappeared into the earth."

Martin Burnham Went to Heaven - biographical

New Window

Tom Stewart

6-20-02

Martin Burnham was occupied with what he was supposed to be doing, when he left. "Occupy till I come" (Luke 19:13). As a missionary pilot, Martin was transporting people, supplies, or simply encouragement. He was attempting to maintain a Christlike walk-- even in the most difficult circumstances of captivity in the Philippine jungles. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1Corinthians 10:31). Martin said,

"We might not leave this jungle alive,
but at least we can leave this world serving the Lord with gladness.
We can serve Him right here where we are, and with gladness."

If we will endeavour to serve the LORD in the fullest way that we understand, then we will be exercising the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given us. "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal" (1Corinthians 12:7). If we "walk in love" (Ephesians 5:2), we will be exercising our spiritual gift, whatever it is, even if we know not what to call it. "And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing" (1Corinthians 13:2). If we are pointing to Christ, then we are walking "in faith and love" (2Timothy 1:13). We will either be evangelizing the Lost, revitalizing the Backslidden, or discipling the Faithful. "Make full proof of thy ministry" (2Timothy 4:5).

"Meditations" - series of devotionals

New Window

J. Hudson Taylor

(1832-1905)

Meditations on The First Psalm ---New Window
"Divine prosperity is GOD'S purpose for every believer, in all that he undertakes; in things temporal and in things spiritual, in all the relations and affairs of this life, as well as in all work for CHRIST and for eternity, it is GOD'S will for each child of His that 'whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.' Yet many of His children evidently do not enjoy this uniform blessing; some find failure rather than success the rule of their life; while others, sometimes prospered and sometimes discouraged, live lives of uncertainty, in which anxiety and even fear are not infrequent. Shall we not each one at the outset ask, How is it with me? Is this blessed prosperity my experience? Am I so led by the SPIRIT in my doings, and so prospered by GOD in their issues, that as His witness I can bear testimony to His faithfulness to this promise? If it be not so with me, what is the reason? Which of the necessary conditions have I failed to fulfill? May our meditations on the First Psalm make these conditions more clear to our minds, and may faith be enabled to claim definitely all that is included in this wonderful promise!"

Meditations on The History of Job ---New Window
"The believer does not need to wait until he sees the reason of GOD'S affective dealings with him ere he is satisfied; he knows that all things work together for good to them that love GOD; that all GOD'S dealings are those of a loving FATHER, who only permits that which for the time being is grievous, in order to accomplish results that cannot be achieved in any less painful way. The wise and trustful child of God rejoices in tribulation, 'knowing that tribulation worketh patience,' experience, hope-- a hope that 'maketh not ashamed; because the love of GOD is shed abroad in our hearts by the HOLY GHOST which is given unto us.' The history of Job is full of instruction, and should teach us many lessons of deep interest and great profit. The veil is taken away from the unseen world, and we learn much of the power of our great adversary; but also of his powerlessness apart from the permission of GOD our FATHER."

Meditations on The Book of Ruth ----New Window
"Ruth was by nature a 'stranger to the commonwealth of Israel,' but by marriage with an Israelite was brought amongst that people. On the death of her husband, she still cleave to her mother-in- law and to her GOD, the GOD of Israel. She so esteemed her privileged position that for it she left her native land and all its enjoyments; left parents, relatives and friends, and all those attractions that led Orpah to return to Moab. To her it was better to be the companion of her mother-in-law, poor and desolate as she was, than to enjoy for a season what in Moab might have been hers. This sacrifice was so real that Naomi, much as she loved her daughter-in-law, and desolate as she would be without her, felt she could not wish it for her own sake merely; but when Ruth said, 'Thy people shall be my people, and thy GOD my GOD,' she had no further obstacle to put in her way."

Meditations on Cross-Bearing ---New Window
"WE might naturally have thought that if there was one thing in the life of the LORD JESUS CHRIST which belonged to Him alone, it was His cross-bearing. To guard against so natural a mistake, the HOLY GHOST has taken care in gospel and in epistle to draw our special attention to the oneness of the believer with CHRIST in cross-bearing; and also to prevent misunderstanding as to the character of Christian cross-bearing, and the constancy of its obligation. The LORD JESUS, in the words we are considering, teaches us that if any man, no matter who he may be, will be His disciple, he must – not he may – deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow his LORD."

Meditations on The Great Father ---New Window
"HOW pleasant it is to the heart of a true child to hear his father well spoken of, and to rejoice that he is the child of such a father! We feel that we can never thank GOD sufficiently for our privileged lot, who have been blessed with true and loving Christian parents. But if this be the case with regard to the dim and at best imperfect earthly reflections, what of the glorious Reality – the great FATHER – the source of all fatherhood, of all protection – of all that is blessed here, and true, and noble, and good – and of all the glories to which we look forward in the future? 'The LORD GOD is a Sun and Shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.'"

Or, The Life of A. T. Pierson -biography

New Window

Tom Stewart

3-25-2001

"I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an Open Door,
and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength,
and hast kept My Word, and hast not denied My Name"
(Revelation 3:8).
"Arthur T. Pierson best exemplifies the integrity of the Philadelphian Church Era... His preaching (over 13,000 sermons), extensive writings (over fifty books), and Bible lectures made him widely known in America. He was a consulting editor for his friend, C. I. Scofield (1843-1921), with the original Scofield Reference Bible (1909), and was the author of the classic biography, 'George Muller of Bristol'... A. T. Pierson's association with D. L. Moody and his Northfield Conferences were the breeding ground for Pierson's determination to see the world evangelized in his generation... Arthur Pierson was himself a speaker at the Keswick Convention. This deepening of the Christian life in Pierson saw him author one of his most spiritually significant books, 'In Christ Jesus' (1898), where Pierson's personal journey had led him to the conclusion that 'this brief phrase ['in Christ Jesus'] -- a preposition followed by a proper name -- is the key to the whole New Testament.'"

Miracles in the LORD - promises

New Window

8-13-99

At every mention of Miracles performed by our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ, could we not, as His ambassadors, perform such Miracles by the Promise of His Word-- "greater works than these shall [ye] do"?. In the troubled times that lay ahead, Tribulation saints will especially NEED the LORD's Power displayed in Miracles. "Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this Man [put your name here] doeth many Miracles" (John 11:47).

"Miracles Wrought Through Servants of God"
An excerpt from:The New Topical Textbook -devotional

New Window

endorsed by R. A. Torrey

There are many Miracles recorded in the WORD of God, and they are there to provide us with a witness of our LORD's willingness to help us in times of need. These Miracles prove that our LORD can, and will, "move Heaven and earth" for us, when we are in need of such action. "Prove Me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the Windows of Heaven" (Malachi 3:10)... We are reminded that the Miracles contained in God's WORD, seem especially abundant during difficult times of transition for God's people, i.e., founding of the nation of Israel, establishing the Church, the Tribulation Week. They are given for our edification and use in our own difficult days of transistion. Please share with Mr. Torrey The Wonderful Watchcare that is enjoyed by ALL of God's children. He loves us so much!

Moses, The Servant of God (Part 1) -story with illustrations

New Window

Katie Stewart

5-11-2001

Follow the account of Moses from The Creation of the Universe in Genesis, to the plagues in Egypt and deliverance through the Red Sea.

"As the human tool used in the hand of God to author the first five Books of the Old Testament, called the Pentateuch, Moses had to truly be 'the servant of God' (Revelation 15:3). The LORD had to have a man who would trust Him so completely and believe Him so fully as to put on parchment the Record of an event that no human being could have witnessed personally and still credit its veracity as being from God. And this man would need to associate his name and person with it. It is this Record that God's people have lovingly ever after called, 'The Creation'"

Moses, The Servant of God (Part 2) -story with illustrations

Continuing the story of Israel's journey to the Promised Land and Moses' death on Mount Nebo.

"'Moses the servant of God' (Revelation 15:3), in authoring the first quarter of the entire Old Testament, who is mentioned periodically throughout the Bible in 774 verses, and finally, as being an important part of God's plan at the very end of the Scriptures, totally justifies The Word's title of him as 'The Servant of God' (15:3). For we believe that one of the 'Two Witnesses' spoken of in the Book of Revelation will be Moses. 'And I will give Power unto My Two Witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth' (Revelation 11:3)."

Music On Christmas Morning --Christian poetry

New Window

Anne Bronte

(1820-1849)

As that we hear on Christmas morn,
Upon the wintry breezes borne...

Must We Then Sin?
Or, A Response to the Doctrine of Sin Nature or the Doctrine of Original Sin
Or, A Clarification of What is Sin, Why We Sin, and How Not to Sin - study

New Window

Tom Stewart

9-7-99

"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for His Seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God"
(1John 3:9).

The present, woeful ignorance of the Laodicean Church concerning the LORD Jesus Christ, has begotten a necessity to sin and to entertain all the worst sins of the world, while professing themselves to be "rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing" (Revelation 3:17).

This Doctrine of Sin Nature or Original Sin has become an indispensable article of faith to the modern Church, but it has been, and still is, a refuge and excuse for sin and sinning, an unbearable "yoke of bondage" (Galatians 5:1), and an impediment to any attempt to live apart from sin. "For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the Holy Commandment delivered unto them" (2Peter 2:21).

"The dogma of constitutional moral depravity, is a part and parcel of the doctrine of a necessitated will. It is a branch of a grossly false and heathenish philosophy. How infinitely absurd, dangerous, and unjust, then, to embody it in a standard of Christian doctrine, to give it the place of an indispensable article of faith, and denounce all who will not swallow its absurdities, as heretics. O, shame!" (from Charles G. Finney's "Lectures on Systematic Theology",
Lecture XLI (41) on "Moral Depravity" ---New Window).
May the Merciful God allow you to "adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things" (Titus 2:10).

My Doctrine Is Not Mine
Or, On the Importance of Maintaining Sound Doctrine- study

New Window

Tom Stewart

Doctrine is one of those words that often puts people on edge, as if they may be forced to mindlessly parrot things they do not understand, much less believe. However, "Good Doctrine" (Proverbs 4:2) is the teaching that God gives to us from His Word. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for Doctrine [Greek, didaskalia, teaching, learning, instruction, precepts], for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (2Timothy 3:16).

My Vision of the Russian Attack on North America - prophecy

New Window

J. Reg King

In the vision I saw things happening, and understood in my mind, as it was revealed to me, as to the location and who they were. The Russian forces were coming out of the area of the Bathurst Inlet. I remember how astonished I was, because they were there undetected. They had a large mobile military attack force, with heavy armour.54
