Pardon for the Greatest Sinners - sermon |
Jonathan Edwards |
(1703-1758) |
PSALM 25:11 "For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity; for it is great." IT is evident by some passages in this psalm, that when it was penned, it was a time of affliction and danger with David. |

Paul, The Christian Hero -study |
D. L. Moody |
(1837-1899) |
"There was Paul. He won his crown. He had many a hard fight; he met Satan on many a battle-field, and he overcame him and wore the crown. It would take about ten thousand of the average Christians of this day or any other to make one of Paul. When I read the life of that Apostle, I blush for the Christianity of the nineteenth century. It is a weak and sickly thing." --D. L. Moody |

Perfect Peace |
Tom Stewart |
6-28-98 |
Perfect Peace is given only to those whose mind and heart recline upon the LORD, i.e., "whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee" (Isaiah 26:3). Our peace is perfect because it comes from God. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you" (John 14:27). |

Pleading With God and
Argument in Prayer |
A. T. Pierson |
(1837-1911) |
"This man who had determined to risk everything upon God's word of promise, turned from doubtful devices and questionable methods of relief to pleading with God. And it may be well to mark his manner of pleading. He used argument in prayer... This method of holy argument-- ordering our cause before God, as an advocate would plead before a judge-- is not only almost a lost art, but to many it actually seems almost puerile. And yet it is abundantly taught and exemplified in Scripture. Abraham in his plea for Sodom is the first great example of it. Moses excelled in this art,in many crises interceding in behalf of the people with consummate skill, marshalling arguments as a general-in-chief marshals battalions. Elijah on Carmel is a striking example of power in this special pleading. What a zeal and jealousy for God! It is probable that if we had fuller records we should find that all pleaders with God, like Noah, Job, Samuel, David, Daniel, Jeremiah, Paul, and James, have used the same method." --A. T. Pierson |

Pollyanna is a book by Eleanor Porter, a movie by Walt Disney, and a label for those whose optimism overreaches the boundaries of the reality seen by others. You can see why 100-year-old Abraham-- with 90-year-old Sarah-- could have been labelled a Pollyanna for believing God's promise of a son, as well as becoming the Father of a Great Nation. "20 He staggered not at the Promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in Faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform" (Romans 4:20-21). Dare we be called a Pollyanna for our rejoicing optimism in the Promises of God? | |

"Power From On High" - book |
Charles G. Finney |
(1792-1875) |
"We need the endowment of power from on high. Christ had previously informed the disciples that without Him they could do nothing. When He gave them the commission to convert the world, He added, 'But tarry ye in Jerusalem till ye be endued with power from on high. Ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Lo, I send upon you the promise of My Father.' This baptism of the Holy Ghost, this thing promised by the Father, this endowment of power from on high, Christ has expressly informed us is the indispensable condition of performing the work which he has set before us." |

Power Through Prayer - book |
E. M. Bounds |
(1835-1913) |
"NEVER was there greater need for saintly men
and women; more imperative still is the call for saintly, God-devoted preachers.
The world moves with gigantic strides. Satan has his hold and rule on the world,
and labors to make all its movements subserve his ends. Religion must do its best
work, present its most attractive and perfect models. By every means, modern sainthood
must be inspired by the loftiest ideals and by the largest possibilities through
the Spirit. Paul lived on his knees, that the Ephesian Church might measure the heights,
breadths, and depths of an unmeasurable saintliness, and 'be filled with all the
fullness of God.' Epaphras laid himself out with the exhaustive toil and strenuous
conflict of fervent prayer, that the Colossian Church might 'stand perfect and complete
in all the will of God.' Everywhere, everything in apostolic times was on the stretch
that the people of God might each and 'all come in the unity of the faith, and of
the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature
of the fullness of Christ.' No premium was given to dwarfs; no encouragement to an
old babyhood. The babies were to grow; the old, instead of feebleness and infirmities,
were to bear fruit in old age, and be fat and flourishing. The divinest thing in
religion is holy men and holy women. No amount of money, genius, or culture can move things for God. Holiness energizing the soul, the whole man aflame with love, with desire for more faith, more prayer, more zeal, more consecration -- this is the secret of power. These we need and must have, and men must be the incarnation of this God-inflamed devotedness. God's advance has been stayed, his cause crippled: his name dishonored for their lack. Genius (though the loftiest and most gifted), education (though the most learned and refined), position, dignity, place, honored names, high ecclesiastics cannot move this chariot of our God. It is a fiery one, and fiery forces only can move it. The genius of a Milton fails. The imperial strength of a Leo fails. Brainerd's spirit can move it. Brainerd's spirit was on fire for God, on fire for souls. Nothing earthly, worldly, selfish came in to abate in the least the intensity of this all-impelling and all-consuming force and flame." --E. M. Bounds |

Precious Bible Promises |
Compiled by Samuel Clarke, D.D. |
(1675-1729) |
Compiled by Samuel Clarke more than 274 years ago, Precious Bible Promises is more than a sampling of the vows of a Loving God to fulfil the certainties of His Everlasting Word to a trusting soul, but it is a reference from which to begin to mine the unfathomable treasures of Christ-- in the times of calm before the promised storms. "For all the Promises of God in Him are Yea, and in Him Amen, unto the Glory of God by us" (2Corinthians 1:20). |

Pressing into the Kingdom of God - sermon |
Jonathan Edwards |
(1703-1758) |
Luke 16:16 "The law and the prophets were until John; since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it." In these words two things may be observed: First, Wherein the work and office of John the Baptist consisted, viz. in preaching the kingdom of God, to prepare the way for its introduction to succeed the law and the prophets. |

Rapture And Judgment
Are At Hand |
Tom Stewart |
1-22-99 |
"For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the Word
that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your
days, O rebellious house, will I say the Word, and will perform it, saith the LORD
GOD" (Ezekiel 12:25). The mockers of Ezekiel's day coined their own parable about all the prophecies and visions that predicted a coming judgment for the iniquity of their nation-- "The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth" (Ezekiel 12:22). In other words, the scoffers were saying that the prophesied days are extended to some future time-- if at all. Besides, all the other visions and prophecies have failed to materialize, as well. The LORD's response is to silence the scoffers' parable with the fulfillment of the vision. "Tell them therefore, Thus saith the LORD GOD; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect [fulfillment] of every vision" (Ezekiel 12:23). |

"Reaping The Whirlwind" - prophecy |
Harley Hickling |
3-24-2000 |

Red Sky in Morning |
Tom Stewart |
7-17-2000 |
"And in the morning, It will be foul weather
to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face
of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" (Matthew 16:3). "For any True Christian, knowing or not knowing the "day and hour" (Matthew 24:36) of Christ's return or of the Pre-Tribulational Rapture, is truly a non-issue, compared to the destiny of the hypocrite, who discerns not the "signs of the times" (Matthew 16:3). The real issue is Perfect Love, that is, "Do we give to Christ the obedience that demonstrates that we are His friends?" "Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you" (John 15:14). Contention over the whole topic of knowing or not knowing the day and hour of the LORD's return, would vanish if our hearts were not embittered over disappointments experienced, because the LORD Jesus delayed His coming. Again, "for the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:3). Allow the Sovereign God the time to work out His purpose in completing the Body of Christ and working out His judgment of the world. "And all the inhabitants of the Earth are reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to His will in the army of Heaven, and among the inhabitants of the Earth: and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest Thou?" (Daniel 4:35)." |

Revealed In Time: The
Last Revelations |
Dumitru Duduman |
1997 |
Number 1: "Tell my people, that their worship
toward Me must not be out of fear, but out of love. Of what use will it be to them
if I would tell them when the final hour will strike? What they must do is worship
wholeheartedly. I have already sent them a guide. They have My Word. In my Word it
has already been revealed that I will come as a thief in the night. Tell them that
concern over tomorrow should not be found in them. They must be faithful, and fight
the good fight. Love me as I have loved them, living in love. Behold destruction
is fast approaching, but I will not hesitate to protect for my chosen. Those that
sow mercy, shall receive mercy from Me. Tell my people not to worry about the seasons,
but to meditate on how they will stand before Me. Urge them to prepare for that day
when I will show My power. Look!..." Number 2: "It took me a while to find what he was looking at. It was a small bear who seemed half dead lying on the ground. As I continued to watch this bear, it began to breathe deeper. With every passing minute it seemed to revive itself, and, as I watched, it continued to become angrier. It than began It then began to grow. Soon it was larger than the forest floor and as it grew larger it continued to become angrier." The Third and Last Prophecy Number 3: "The lawless one has been prepared, and he is ready to reveal himself. He awaits his release. He will come with a lying tongue and deceiving words. I will protect My own, and I will deliver them even out of the clutches of the enemy..." |
|
"Revival Lectures" - book |
Charles G. Finney |
(1792-1875) |
"It is altogether improbable that religion will ever make progress among heathen nations except through the influence of revivals. The attempt is now in making to do it by education, and other cautious and gradual improvements. But so long as the laws of mind remain what they are, it cannot be done in this way. There must be excitement sufficient to wake up the dormant moral powers, and roll back the tide of degradation and sin. And precisely so far as our land approximates to heathenism, it is impossible for God or man to promote religion in such a state of things but by powerful excitements. This is evident from the fact that this has always been the way in which God has done it. God does not create these excitements, and choose this method to promote religion, for nothing, or without reason. Men being so reluctant to obey God, will not act until they are excited. For instance, how many there are who know that they ought to be religious, but they are afraid that if they become pious they will be laughed at by their companions. Many are wedded to idols; others are procrastinating repentance until they are settled in life, or until they have secured some favorite worldly interest. Such persons never will give up their false shame, or relinquish their ambitious schemes, till they are so excited by a sense of quiet and danger they cannot hold back any longer." |
