The Truth -study |
Katie Stewart |
5-1-02 |
"To truly KNOW Jesus Christ, is to obey Him. Anywhere in Scripture, this lesson rings True, for 'Scripture cannot be broken' (John 10:35). 'For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I KNOW Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is Able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day' (2Timothy 1:12). To KNOW Him is to respect Him, honour Him, love Him.'If ye Love Me, keep My Commandments' (John 14:15). If you KNOW, deep down in your heart and soul, that 'Jesus Christ is come in the flesh' (1John 4:2), then you will do what He tells you to do. 'I will show thee my faith by my works' (James 2:18). But when you do not obey ALL of the Truth that you KNOW, then you are not 'of God' (4:2). 'Therefore to him that KNOWETH to do Good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin' (James 4:17). '20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the Knowledge of the LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is WORSE with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have KNOWN the Way of Righteousness, than, after they have KNOWN it, to turn from the Holy Commandment delivered unto them' (2Pet. 2:20-21)... You can KNOW that you KNOW Him, The Truth, if you fit His Description. 'Every one that is of The Truth heareth My Voice' (John 18:37). 'And we KNOW that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an Understanding, that we may KNOW HIM that is True, and we are IN Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and Eternal Life' (1John 5:20)." |

The Use of Money - sermon |
John Wesley |
(1703-1791) |
"An excellent branch of Christian wisdom is here inculcated by our Lord on all his followers, namely, the right use of money-- a subject largely spoken of, after their manner, by men of the world; but not sufficiently considered by those whom God hath chosen out of the world. These, generally, do not consider, as the importance of the subject requires, the use of this excellent talent. Neither do they understand how to employ it to the greatest advantage; the introduction of which into the world is one admirable instance of the wise and gracious providence of God. It has, indeed, been the manner of poets, orators, and philosophers, in almost all ages and nations, to rail at this, as the grand corrupter of the world, the bane of virtue, the pest of human society... But is not all this mere empty rant? Is there any solid reason therein? By no means. For, let the world be as corrupt as it will, is gold or silver to blame? "The love of money," we know, "is the root of all evil;" but not the thing itself. The fault does not lie in the money, but in them that use it. It may be used ill: and what may not? But it may likewise be used well... It is therefore of the highest concern that all who fear God know how to employ this valuable talent; that they be instructed how it may answer these glorious ends, and in the highest degree. And, perhaps, all the instructions which are necessary for this may be reduced to three plain rules, by the exact observance whereof we may approve ourselves faithful stewards of "the mammon of unrighteousness." "Gain all you can." |

Jonathan Edwards |
(1703-1758) |
Psalm 36:2 "For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful." In the foregoing verse, David says, that the transgression of the wicked said within his heart, "that there is no fear of God before his eyes;" that is, when he saw that the wicked went on in sin, in an allowed way of wickedness, it convinced him, that he was not afraid of those terrible judgments, and of that wrath with which God hath threatened sinners If he were afraid of these he could never go on so securely in sin, as he doth. | |

The Valley of the Shadow - prophecy |
Bob Neumann @ Bob's Home Page ---- New Window |
10-3-98 |
Like so often before I was in quiet prayer and meditation when suddenly I stood in "the Valley of Vision". Just ahead of me sat MY LORD on an escarpment of rock. In the few steps it took to walk to HIS SIDE the whole vista around us took shape and form. Seldom have I seen HIM sitting so casually looking out to the distance. Once again HE was in traveling attire, and underneath the robes where the ARMOR of THE KING OF GLORY, THE LORD OF HOSTS. I was dressed in dark work clothes, sweaty and covered with dust. |

The Virgin Birth |
Dr. Ian Paisley and Professor James Orr |
|
Dr. Paisley-- "Woman was so constructed that
in the production of her child none of her blood would enter the veins of her offspring.
This brings us back to Genesis and there we read: "And the LORD God caused a
deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed
up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man,
made He a woman, and brought her unto the man." --Genesis 2:21-22. The word
used in verse 22 for the making of the woman is literally "builded." God
builded, or constructed, woman and she was constructed in such a manner that when
she was producing a child, that child's blood would be a new creation and not formed
by the mother's bloodstream. Why did God so build, or construct, the woman? Simply
because He was anticipating the Virgin Birth and making ready the woman for the great
incarnation of God in human flesh." Prof. Orr-- "The critics speak of the discrepancies of the narratives. Much more remarkable, it seems to me, are their agreements and the subtle harmonies that pervade them. The agreements, if we study them carefully, prove to be far more numerous than may at first strike us. Here, e.g., is a list of twelve points, which lie really on the surface of the narratives, yet give very nearly the gist of the whole story." . The Way of Salvation |
Charles G. Finney |
(1792-1875) |
"The following 25 sermons represent ten percent of the sermons that C. G. Finney published in the periodical, 'The Oberlin Evangelist' ---New Window, 1839-1862. They were selected by Professor Cowles, who wrote down many of Finney's sermons, because he felt that they best exemplified the Gospel message in a concise presentation. The modern reader will find that Finney appeals to the heart by requiring his readers to think. 'Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool' (Isaiah 1:18). Finney depended upon the Holy Spirit to press home the logic of his case so that his readers would have to yield. 'Unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required' (Luke 12:48)." --Tom Stewart, WStS |

THE WAY TO GOD |
D. L. Moody |
(1837-1899) |
"If we receive the witness of men the witness of God is greater." God has borne witness to Jesus Christ... Faith is a belief in testimony. It is not a leap in the dark, as some tell us. That would be no faith at all. God does not ask any man to believe without giving him something to believe. You might as well ask a man to see without eyes; to hear without ears; and to walk without feet as to bid him believe without giving him something to believe... If a drowning man sees a rope thrown out to rescue him he must lay hold of it; and in order to do so he must let go everything else. If a man is sick he must take the medicine- for simply looking at it will not cure him. A knowledge of Christ will not help the inquirer, unless he believes in Him, and takes hold of Him as his only hope... I believe that a certain line of steamers will convey me across the ocean, because I have tried it: but this will not help another man who may want to go, unless he acts upon my knowledge. So a knowledge of Christ does not help us unless we act upon it. That is what it is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. It is to act on what we believe. As a man steps on board a steamer to cross the Atlantic, so we must take Christ and make a commitment of our souls to Him; and He has promised to keep all who put their trust in Him. To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ is simply to take Him at His word. |

The Weapon of Prayer - study |
E. M. Bounds |
(1835-1913) |
"GOD'S great plan for the redemption of mankind is as much bound up to prayer for its prosperity and success as when the decree creating the movement was issued from the Father, bearing on its frontage the imperative, universal and eternal condition, "Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thy inheritance and the uttermost part of the earth for thy possession." In many places an alarming state of things has come to pass, in that the many who are enrolled in our churches are not praying men and women. Many of those occupying prominent positions in church life are not praying men. It is greatly to feared that much of the work of the Church is being done by those who are perfect strangers to the closet. Small wonder that the work does not succeed. While it may be true that many in the Church say prayers, it is equally true that their praying is of the stereotyped order. Their prayers may be charged with sentiment, but they are tame, timid, and without fire or force. Even this sort of praying is done by a few straggling men to be found at prayer-meetings. Those whose names are to be found bulking large in our great Church assemblies are not men noted for their praying habits. Yet the entire fabric of the work in which they are engaged has, perforce, to depend on the adequacy of prayer. This fact is similar to the crisis which would be created were a country to have to admit in the face of an invading foe that it cannot fight and have no knowledge of the weapons whereby war is to be waged. In all God's plans for human redemption, He proposes that men pray. The men are to pray in every place, in the church, in the closet, in the home, on sacred days and on secular days. All things and everything are dependent on the measure of men's praying. Prayer is the genius and mainspring of life. We pray as we live; we live as we pray. Life will never be finer than the quality of the closet. The mercury of life will rise only by the warmth of the closet. Persistent non-praying eventually will depress life below zero." --E. M. Bounds |

The Winds of the Spirit - prophecy |
Anonymous |
|
The Spirit of God would say to you that the wind of the Holy Spirit is blowing through this land. The church, however, is incapable of fully recognizing this wind. Just as your nation has given names to hurricanes, so I have put a name to this wind. This wind shall be named, "Holiness unto the Lord". |

"And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for
God took him" (Genesis 5:24). "The Professed Church's uncertainty of Rapture or no Rapture-- and, if Rapture, then when-- is interesting, considering the fact that there have already been at least two Saints that have been Raptured, i.e., Enoch and Elijah-- and that, before the New Covenant! 'But now hath He obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He is the Mediator of a Better Covenant, which was established upon Better Promises' (Hebrews 8:6)... The possibility of More Than One Advent for the Messiah has given the Church the Doctrine of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and it has also given the Body of Christ the legitimate expectation that More Than One Rapture will yet provide for the Son a worthy inheritance... The examples of Enoch and Elijah only reinforce the concept that the LORD God has wisely seen fit to accomplish More Than One Rapture already, setting the precedent for the future. 'Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come' (1Corinthians 10:11). Man's tradition is most often an impediment to the understanding of More Than One Rapture." |

"But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD
thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy
soul" (Deuteronomy 4:29). "The Second Psalm is the most concise revelation of the Person and Nature of the Messiah in the Psalms. It begins with a prophecy of the opposition of both Gentile and Jew against the LORD and His Messiah, and manifests Jehovah's wrathful displeasure in their rebellion. "1 Why do the heathen [i.e., the Gentiles] rage, and the people [i.e., Israel, God's peculiar people] imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the Earth [i.e., Rome's Pontius Pilate] set themselves, and the rulers [i.e., Israel's Herod Antipas] take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His Anointed [Hebrew, mashiyach, meaning Messiah], saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us [i.e., both Gentile and Jew assert their intention to break God's Law and live in open rebellion of Jehovah's restraint]. 4 He that sitteth in the Heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure" (2:1-5). The Almighty establishes the Kingdom of the Messiah; and accordingly, the Messiah declares Himself to be the Son of God and royally decrees His Own Universal Dominion. "6 Yet have I set My King upon My holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee. 8 Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen for Thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the Earth for Thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a Rod of Iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel" (2:6-9). Wisdom is to submit to God; and, the Salvation of rebellious man resides in making peace with the Messiah, placing their confidence in the beneficence of the Messiah, Who will ultimately set in Judgment over the whole Earth." |
