Listen to the Bible |
In this 21st century, more and more, we Christians have begun to sit in front of
our computer monitors to: (1) read sermons, books, articles, Bible studies, etc.,
(2) search online for background information on current events related to Bible prophecy,
and (3) even listen to our computers read to us the Bible. "What hath God wrought!" (Numbers
23:23). As an adolescent Baby Boomer, I can remember the struggle
of attempting to read my Bible daily; and, as a newly married, young adult, on fire
for the LORD, I remember the great fervency of desiring to feed upon the Word of
God. "Thy words were found, and I did
eat them; and Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart" (Jeremiah 15:16). Now, I realize that we have one
of the most effective opportunities to read and survey the Scriptures by listening
to Stephen Johnston read the King James Bible and reinforcing the Spoken Word, while
following along on our computer monitor with the written text in front of us, by
using a feature of WhatSaithTheScripture.com called Twenty Minutes A Day: How to Survey the Bible in One Year ---New Window (compiled by Robert Gunn). With your
(preferably) broadband internet connection and a pair of headphones, you can easily
listen to RealAudio files of the entire Bible being read through in a year, while
you have time to reflect upon what the Holy Spirit is saying to you. Not only is
a blessing promised to those who read the Scriptures, but a blessing is just as certainly
promised to those who listen to the Bible. "Blessed
is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those
things which are written therein: for the time is at hand"
(Revelation 1:3). Of course, in addition to hearing the Word,
we have to be willing to be a Doer of the Word, if and when we have the opportunity.
"23 For if any be a hearer of the Word, and not a doer, he is
like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway
forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth
therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall
be blessed in his deed" (James 1:23-25).
But, if we, with Special Promise, listen to the Bible, expecting Blessing from Listening
to the Word of God, then by Faith, we will be blessed! "Blessed
is the man that heareth Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the posts of My
doors" (Proverbs 8:34).
Promises for Those Who Listen to the Bible
Faith and confidence in God is promised to those, who listen to the Bible.
"So then Faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17).
Blessing and happiness is promised to those, who listen to the Bible, especially
the Book of Revelation.
"Blessed is he that readeth, and they
that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein:
for the time is at hand" (Revelation 1:3).
Blessing and happiness is promised to those, who listen to the Bible, in particular,
hear the Wisdom of the Book of Proverbs.
"Blessed is the man that heareth Me, watching
daily at My gates, waiting at the posts of My doors" (Proverbs
8:34).
Joy is promised to you, who listen to the Bible, i.e., "when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed
before Him at His coming [Greek, parousia]" (1John 2:28).
"Hear the Word of the LORD, ye that tremble
at His Word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for My name's sake,
said, Let the LORD be glorified: but He shall appear to your joy, and they shall
be ashamed" (Isaiah 66:5).
Blessing and happiness is promised to those, who listen to the Bible and take
care to obey It.
"Blessed are they that hear the Word of
God, and keep It" (Luke 11:28).
